Step Aside Granola Bars…Chocolate Chip Power Ball Goodness Is Here!
The POWER is in the protein and super foods you’ll find in these little babies.
They are easy to make, and easy transportable. My daughter’s volleyball team loved these at their tournament food tables.
This is like a homemade granola bar all wrapped up in a little ball of chewy goodness.
Once you make a batch or even a double batch, they store well in the refrigerator or freezer, so you can’t go wrong.
Here is how I make them, with a printable recipe at the bottom of this post…
Get a large bowl and add 1 1/2 Cups Peanut Butter and 3/4 Cup Honey.
You can substitute any nut butter. I’ve used almond butter before.
Combine this really well into a gooey goodness. This is the “glue” that will hold the ball all together.
Now you’re going to add 1/2 Cup Milled Flaxseed. Some flaxseed comes already milled and sometimes it comes whole.
Mine is whole, so I use my electric coffee grinder to “mill” it.
Add the milled flaxseed and 3 Cups Old Fashioned Oats to your bowl.
You will also add 2 Scoops Vanilla Whey Protein, 1/2 Cup Chopped Nuts (I use walnuts), and 1 Cup Dark Chocolate Chips (I use Ghiradelli because they are the best!).
This would all probably mix gently in a stand mixer, but I put on disposable gloves and smush it all together by hand.
Roll into Ping-Pong sized balls, and set on a cookie sheet.
Freeze for 20 minutes.
Now they are manageable and you can store them in a container and refrigerate or freeze them.
Makes about 30 balls.
They go quickly!
Next time you’ll swear you’ll make a double batch.
They are versatile. Just use your imagination.
I think the key is that as long as you have about that much nut butter and honey to be your “glue” then you can combine whatever “dry” ingredients you want to form your power ball.
There is 3 1/2 cups of “dry stuff” plus the protein powder which is about another 1/3 cup of “dry stuff”, so gauge your ingredients with those measurements, and experiment!
I’ve used less oats and added wheat germ in its place.
You could add more protein powder and less oats or eliminate the flaxseed.
Maybe you want to add chia seeds or pumpkin seeds.
Perhaps you could use sunflower nut butter and then actually add sunflower kernels as your “nut.”
Maybe you want dried fruit instead of chocolate chips.
Experiment and make your own Power Balls!
